Amazon announces the all-new Kindle Paperwhite e-reader, now available for preorder starting at $119

What initially began as an early leak has now turned into an official announcement and preorder availability for Amazon’s all-new Paperwhite e-reader. The second generation Paperwhite features a higher contrast screen to make text appear even sharper, faster processor so books open faster and pages turn quicker, and a next-gen light to minimize eyestrain. It will also have a more responsive and accurate touchscreen to help improve the overall reading experience with the device. The new ‘flip’ feature will allow readers to quickly skim through future pages without losing their current place. Check out the entire tech specs and feature list at the Amazon product listing.

The WiFi version of the new Kindle Paperwhite is scheduled to ship September 30th with 2GB of storage (1.25GB usable) for $119 with special offers and $139 without. A 3G model will be available in November for $189. All models are now available for preorder.

Amazon also announced the Kindle Matchbook program which will allow purchasers of print books to download a digital copy for $2.99, $1.99, $0.99, or free. This unqiue program will apply to new condition books purchased from Amazon since the online retailer’s inception in 1995. Kindle Matchbook will launch in October.
