Amazon one-day offers: Rare Prime discount of 27%, Transparent available to stream for free

Amazon always has education discounts and free trial offers for its Prime service, but it’s not often that the online retailer lets anyone sign up for less than the usual $99 per year. Today Amazon is doing just that. Any Amazon customer who signs up for a new Prime account will only pay $72 for the first year, which translates into a savings of 27%.

While the terms of the promo state that only new sign ups are eligible for the discounted rate, there is a workaround for existing members. First, turn off auto renew for your current Prime membership. Next, buy a gift Prime membership for $72 and have it sent to your email address. Finally, wait until your current membership lapses, and then apply the gift membership code to your account. Voila!

Already set for a couple of years? Be a superhero to your friends and family and gift them a Prime membership.

Prime members get free 2-day shipping on millions of products, unlimited streaming of more than 40,000 TV shows/movies, unlimited photo storage, early access to select Lightning deals, and more.

As a Prime member myself, I have it say it’s absolutely killer to be able order any item on a whim and have it at my doorstep within 48 hours for no additional cost.

Amazon is taking over Hollywood. Transparent won two Golden Globe awards and to celebrate Amazon is streaming the entire first season for free. Just like the Prime offer above, this special promotion is valid for today only.

As they struggle to come to terms with Maura, Josh looks for answers from a rabbi named Raquel (Kathryn Hahn), and Ali looks for answers in a Gender Studies class with Syd. Sarah is left to answer questions from her own kids, who meet Maura for the first time.
