Wireless headphones have become more of the expectation than the exception lately. With advancements in Bluetooth capabilities and Apple Watch support for storing music, cutting the headphone cord is easier than ever. While wireless often means greater freedom, one of the challenges is managing battery life. Even the top brands in this category struggle to get more than eight hours of listening time.

One of the more intriguing solutions to this problem is leveraging the power of your device to charge your headphones. There has been some movement with this idea from JBL and others but it’s a largely untested idea. A new Kickstarter campaign has set out to bring a new pair of earbuds to market that use both Lightning and microUSB ports to recharge on-the-go. Judging by the amount of money pledged, there is some serious interest from consumers as well.

Update: now $6.25 which is still a great deal

Amazon via Pangea sells Apple Certified 5-foot Lightning cables for just $6.25 shipped. That’s a great price on colorful Lightning cables 2 feet longer than Apple’s,  produced with Apple’s Lightning chips.

Pangea Lightning cables are an extra-long 5-feet in length—42% longer than Apple’s standard Lightning cable—and feature superior shielding, robust 27-gauge signal conductors, heavy-duty 21-gauge power conductors and Apple’s newest, thinnest C48 Lightning connector on one end, with a USB ‘A’ connector on the other end. Pangea has utilized high-grade copper, with wire gauges that are significantly thicker than a typical Apple-type cable in order to deliver accurate signal and steady power despite the longer cable length. Five available colors (Black, Blue, Green, Pink, or White) are designed to match your iPhone, iPad Mini or other Apple device.

“Pangea’s Lightning cables offer a no-compromise design and the convenience of a longer cable length all at a very affordable price,” explained Pangea cable designer Jay Victor. “The easy-grip molded connectors and durable cable cover make our solution ideal for everyday use, and we have added a touch of elegance to these Lightning cables by carefully matching Apple’s 5-shade color palette,” concluded Victor. MSRP for the Pangea Lightning cables is $29.95 however they are available now from and Amazon at the low introductory price of $19.95.
