Microsoft unveils Xbox One, aims to be one stop shop for gaming, entertainment, socialization

8d8d5a07-a9cf-44fe-a9ff-25c60085b47e

Update: Get $10 Microsoft online store credit when you sign-up for the Xbox One preorder notification. Update: Done Deal

Today Microsoft held an event at their Redmond campus to unveil the latest iteration in their Xbox line, the Xbox One.  Microsoft managed to surprise with the name as most leaks and rumors pegged the name as “Xbox Infinity” or “Xbox 720.”

While Microsoft is holding some details close to their chest still (release date for one), they were more forthcoming than Sony at their Playstation 4 announcement who failed to even show the device.  The real draw of Xbox One will be its integration between several forms of media including next-gen games, live TV, Social Media, video calls and more.  Microsoft is hoping you will never have to change the TV input again by making the Xbox a one stop shop.  Gamers can simply use a voice command or wave of their hands to toggle between entertainment sources.

Microsoft has even teamed up with ESPN to bring an interactive Fantasy Sports tie-in with live TV.  One thing you need to know is that Xbox One will not be backward compatible with Xbox 360 games, so if you have older games you’re not playing it may be best to start selling them off sooner rather than later.  Some Xbox One titles that were shown off today include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Fifa, Madden, Forza Motorsport 5 and more.

Xbox One will be released “later this year” at an uknown price, you can sign up for more info as it becomes it available.  Amazon is also accepting signups to be put on an Xbox One release info newsletter.
