Crucial releases M500 960GB Solid State Drive, the cheapest terabyte-class SSD ever

Today Crucial announced the immediate availability of their baddest Solid State Drive yet, the M500 2.5 inch 960GB beast for only $599.  This SSD features “…terabyte-class capacity, increased response times, and an advanced feature set.”  At nearly 1TB of capacity, the M500 offers the best of both worlds, the massive capacity of a traditional hard drive and the increased performance of a SSD.  Speaking of performance, “Micron’s 20nm MLC NAND flash, a SATA 6Gb/s controller combined with Micron’s custom firmware to deliver up to 80,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS), the drive’s sequential read and write speeds reach up to 500 MB/s and 400 MB/s, respectively.”  For a more detailed look at the drive’s performance check out the benchmark tests.  Beyond 960GB, the M500 is also available in 120GB, 240GB, 480GB.  All of these drives are now available with free shipping from Amazon and starting at just $130.
