Sony has unveiled a new mini home console called the Playstation Vita TV this morning.  Although carrying the Vita name, this is not another mobile console, it’s a lightweight media hub that connects to your TV, allowing you to play games with a Dualshock 3 and enjoy other forms of media.

The device is about the same size as a Vita at 6.4cm x 10.5cm, which is the smallest Playstation home console the company has ever released. Vita TV will have over 1300 games available on launch, due to the fact that it will support all PSP and PSone titles that are already available through PSN.

Additionally, the device will only play certain Vita games, as it does not support those that make use of the handheld’s touch, motion sensors, and camera functionality. Last but not least, Sony said Vita TV will support the streaming of PS4 games and the wireless Dualshock 4 through a “future system software update.”

It is expected to release in Japan later this year on November 14. There is no word from Sony as to whether the box will make it across the pond or not. More details and images below the fold. This announcement comes on the heels of Sony’s official PS Vita price drop and the announcement of a new, thinner model, coming later this year.

  • PS Vita TV offers a vast lineup of 1,300 software titles*1 from PS Vita games, PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) games and PlayStaion® games from PSOne classics, including all-time favorites to the latest blockbuster titles like DANGANRONPA1&2 Reload (SPIKE CHUNSOFT Co., Ltd.), GOD EATER 2 (NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc.) and SOUL SACRIFICE DELTA (Sony Computer Entertainment). • PlayStation®4 (PS4™) remote play As with PS Vita, PS Vita TV will also support PS4™ remote play and Wireless Controller (DUALSHOCK®4) through future system software update*4. This will allow users to enjoy most of the PS4™ games on PS Vita TV as if they are playing it on the PS4™
