Synology announces new 4-bay DS415play media optimized NAS

Synology has announced a new model in its line of popular Network Attached Storage devices with the DS415play. An updated, 4 bay-version of the DS214play that was revealed last fall, the latest model is also designed with your home entertainment and media experience in mind. Featuring full 1080p video transcoding, the DS415play can efficiently store and beam all of your media content to your home network with fast, multi-channel streaming.

It features a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom CE5335 “Evansport” CPU with 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and four hot swappable 2.5 or 3.5-inch drive bays. You can pack up to 24TB of solid state or traditional hard drive storage into one of these. As for connectivity, the new DS415play has a single Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB 2.0 ports and three USB 3.0 ports.

It runs Synology’s latest DSM 5.0 software, which features an easy to use interface with several handy content streaming apps built right in. The DS415play has an MSRP of $539.99 and is expected to become available in US stores sometime around the end of the month. Amazon currently has it on pre-order for $540 and the older DS214play listed at $348.99 shipped (Reg. $370, within $18 of lowest).
