Battlefield 4-EA Access

Electronic Arts and Microsoft are teaming up to offer a new PlayStation Plus-like subscription service for EA titles on Xbox One. Dubbed EA Access, the new service will offer some of the company’s most popular titles for as low as $4.99 a month, but you can get a deep discount by dropping $29.99 for a full year.

Membership to the new service comes with several benefits:

Subscribers get access to some major titles at no additional cost. When the program hits beta, users will have FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 at their fingertips for as long the membership is active. Other perks include early access to unreleased titles including trial periods for upcoming games like Dragon Age: Inquisition and EA’s new sports titles. EA says in the announcement that in some cases access may be available as early as 5 days before the game’s official launch.

Also very similar to PS Plus, the company will offer its EA Access subscribers 10% off the purchase of EA games via Xbox One’s marketplace.

Originally, there was no word as to whether or not EA would bring the service to other platforms like PlayStation 4, but apparently Sony doesn’t want it anyway. It a recent statement to Game Informer Sony said “We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect” and that asking PlayStation 4 owner to fork out another $5  does not represent “good value to the PlayStation gamer.”

While there is likely more going on behind the scenes than it appears, you likely won’t be seeing any EA games hit PS Plus any time soon and there is still a chance Sony may just be positioning itself to strike a better deal with EA, but only time will tell.
