Haven smartlock can stop a battering ram and will integrate with Apple HomeKit

Over the years, the lock industry has not seen too many big moments of growth over the traditional deadbolt. While some locks are easier to change now and some even feature Bluetooth, nothing has really knocked the doors down from a design perspective. Haven is pulling out all the stops along the way, integrating in the future with Apple’s HomeKit, changing from old-school design, all while building a very tough lock. You won’t believe how strong this thing really is…

By placing the lock at the bottom of the door, instead of the traditional deadbolt location, the Haven Smart Lock depends on weight and structure of your home to keep your door shut. The lock installs near the threshold, into the floor and raises to keep your door shut and locked. By utilizing the existing construction of your home, the Haven Smart Lock can withstand heavier pressure applied to the door.

Haven is trying to include all of the amenities that are expected with any new home automation device, Apple’s HomeKit will be included in the future, as well as the opportunity to sync your lock with the Nest Thermostat. We’ve already seen a number of companies look forward to the integration of HomeKit, but security has not been an area of intense focus.

The Haven Smart Lock is currently still in the fundraising stage on Kickstarter, with a little over $100,000 still to be raised in 29 days. While it is uncertain whether or not this project will meet its goal, Haven certainly is forcing other companies to re-think the home security market place.

You can currently pledge $269 to the cause and that will get you a Haven Smart Lock if the necessary funding is raised. If you are looking for a Bluetooth enabled lock, there are a number that have already entered the marketplace. Both Kwikset and Schlage have products available now that connect to your smartphone and sense your arrival. We will be watching Haven closely in the coming years as they continue to try to innovate home security.
