American made iPhone 6/6 Plus Spool Dock from Quell & Co. takes a different approach to its style

Apple left a gaping hole in the accessory world when it decided not to release an updated dock for the new, larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Shortly after their release, third party manufacturers have brought forth some beautiful and functional docks, but most are made of either aluminum or hard plastics.

A new company on the iPhone accessory scene, Quell & Company, which was co-founded by former Nike designer Jeremy Saxton, has created an iPhone Spool Dock that won’t feel out of place amongst modern home decor…

According to Quell & Company, the Spool Dock takes design cues from modern Scandinavian home décor, but it’s made in the USA. Outfitted with sustainable North American white oak, merino wool felt and a weighty metal base, this unique dock exudes a warm feeling. The unique styling of the Spool Dock is deliberately in stark contrast to other iPhone docks, says Saxton:

We were inspired to create Spool Dock after recognizing that so many tech accessories take their design cues from the devices themselves, rather than focusing on what looks best in the home. We created Spool Dock using a simple, almost primitive design language that focuses on functionality as well as superior craftsmanship and premium materials.

Of course it props your iPhone upright at a perfect viewing angle, but it also acts as a cable manager:

Micro-suction pads and a weighted base allow for one-handed docking and undocking. Now, you may gloss over that as marketing fluff, but it’s important. The one thing I don’t like about my favorite iPhone 6 dock is that I need to hold it down while undocking my devices. The support bars on the top of the dock can be adjusted to free up additional space for cases and devices of different thicknesses.

Compatible with iPhone 6/6 Plus/5/5s/5c, iPad mini and 5th generation iPod touch, the Spool Dock is available in white or black from www.quellandco.com for $65. Don’t forget an extra Apple Lightning cable, you’ll need to supply your own.

Quell & Company Launches Spool Dock, Modern iPhone 6 Dock and Cable Management System

Developed by Former Nike Designer Jeremy Saxton, Spool Dock Among First Docks Designed to Be Compatible With the iPhone 6

SALT LAKE CITY, UT–(Marketwired – Sep 29, 2014) – Quell & Company announced today the official release of its first technology product, Spool Dock, designed to blur the line between modern home decor and electronic accessories. Crafted in the USA from sustainable North American white oak, merino wool felt and a weighty metal base, Spool Dock is a sophisticated, contemporary charging dock for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 5, 5s, 5c, as well as the iPad mini and 5th generation iPod touch. Unlike most other docks, Spool Dock also functions as a cable manager and allows users to swivel docked devices with the touch of a finger

Featuring warm, natural materials, a small footprint and a hidden spooling feature that keeps cables out of sight, Spool Dock allows users to charge and display their devices like never before, and is a beautiful home accent even when not in use. Using a clean, clever design inspired by modern Scandinavian home décor, Quell & Company co-founder and former Nike designer Jeremy Saxton created Spool Dock to be an attractive, practical Apple accessory that addresses issues common in other charging docks.

Spool Dock utilizes three points of contact to ensure device stability and has micro-suction pads on the base to allow for one-handed docking and undocking. It accommodates devices with or without Apple cases (or similar), by simply taking out the support bars and turning them around to increase the space to accommodate the case.

“Spool Dock embodies the very reason we launched Quell & Company — to enhance the home technology marketplace with beautiful, simple accessories meant to complement a modern home’s design aesthetic,” said Saxton. “We were inspired to create Spool Dock after recognizing that so many tech accessories take their design cues from the devices themselves, rather than focusing on what looks best in the home. We created Spool Dock using a simple, almost primitive design language that focuses on functionality as well as superior craftsmanship and premium materials.”

Spool Dock is compatible with Apple’s Lightning Connector (not provided), and is available with a black or white base. Spool Dock retails for $65 and is available at www.quellandco.com
