BrakePack smart backpack keeps bicyclists safe on the road

More and more people are commuting to work each and every day, and with that comes increased risk for injury from cars and obstacles. It’s no surprise that bikers are coming up with more innovative ways to protect themselves. Enter BrakePack – a simple backpack that has built-in braking and turn signals to help keep you safe along the way.

It’s a pretty clever design really, building a lighting system directly into the bag. The iOS app allows users to map out the preferred path of travel, which then syncs with the backpack to provide the proper turn signals on the backpack as you move. Of course, manual brake and turn signals are also available if you choose to not layout your trip on the app. To make the backpack blink, riders simply have to tap on the bag to activate the signal.

The other handy part of this product is that it removes the need for extra brakes and lights on your bike, making for a clutter-free look. It is rechargeable via a mounted battery system that goes on a wall, allowing users to power the supply backup each night or whenever needed.

Availability has yet to be announced as Brakepack’s designers weigh their options for bringing this product to market.
