The latest littleBits DIY electronics kit turns any kid into an inventor

We love build it yourself kits around here, especially those that bring technology to the masses. From Kano to Robo Wunderkind, there have been some intriguing DIY projects released in the last year. littleBits has been around for a while now, but its new Gizmos and Gadgets kit is bound to get the creative juices flowing for all ages.

The latest littleBits innovation focuses on circuits and electronics. This kit comes with 15 “building blocks” plus additional components like dimmers, light sensors and wireless dongles for connecting to the littleBits cloud. There are also electric motors, wheels and plenty of cables to the first project off the ground.

It’s a blend of LEGO and Raspberry Pi that should deliver a fun yet challenging DIY system for children. While instructions are included with ideas for projects, this kit will shine brightest when kids figure it out by themselves.

Sample projects include a megablaster gun, wireless doorbell and a two-wheel remote controlled cart. You can add on littleBit’s Cloudbit Starter Kit to bring internet connectivity to your creations. There is also a music kit with a synthesizer and a coding option that opens the door to creating video games.

The new littleBits Gizmos and Gadgets kit is available for pre-order today for $199.95. Additional add-ons are also available now.
