Use your smartphone as a controller for these AirConsole Mac/PC browser games

A new browser-based gaming platform known as AirConsole is doing some interesting things by combining the power of your smartphone with your computer. Using nothing more than the browser, AirConsole effectively turns your smartphone into a full-screen touch controller for games running on your larger computer screen:

There is no need to download an app on either of your devices, you just navigate to the AirConsole site on both, then drop the code provided to you into your smartphone and you’re ready to go. It sounds as though HDTVs with access to a supported browser will work as well and the platform supports local multiplayer sessions.

At the moment, the library of games isn’t overly impressive with just a few titles like PolyRacer, Tic Tac Boom, and an NES emulator. However, the AirConsole developers say that any browser-based/Unity3d title can be ported over. It is also currently launching reach-out programs and competitions to draw in more game developers.

While you can just as easily grab any USB or Xbox controller for your Mac/PC and use them just the same on Steam’s vast library of titles (in most cases), AirConsole’s sights are set firmly on the casual gaming space. Everybody has a computer and a phone, so this might be an interesting and easy option for some.

You can try it out for yourself right now. Simply hit the Power button at the AirConsole site and follow the onscreen instructions. Reports suggest there are some latency issues on iPhone, but nothing that will ruin some awesome classic/casual gaming.

As usual, you’ll find all of the best gaming deals in our daily roundups.
