NERF first announced its RIVAL line of powerful automatic blasters at Toy Fair 2015. This year, it’s planning on releasing a new fully-automatic option in the fall. This is alongside a few other fresh blasters, but we’ll get to those in a minute. The new RIVAL KHAOS MXVI-4000 is a hefty toy, even by NERF standards.
It will be the first completely automatic blaster in the RIVAL line that is powered by six D-sized batteries and can fire out of a 40-round magazine. The combination of a larger design and the need for a larger power supply will make this $70 blaster a force to be reckoned with.
A smaller XVI-1200 model was also detailed at Toy Fair 2016. At $40, this blaster has eyes on affordability over power. But like the larger 4000, it will require six D batteries for juice. Gone is the fully-automatic design of its sibling, which has been replaced by a pump-action design that fires two rounds at once.
The 12-round magazine will be capable of launching 24 foam balls at speeds of nearly 70MPH. The XVI-1200 is set to release this fall, as well.
Finally, science-fiction fans will want to keep an eye out for the upcoming Alien Menace blasters. The smaller Incisor model has a motorized spinning 16-dart drum that requires four AA batteries. It will retail for $40. NERF also has a larger version called the Ravager, which has a eight-shot barrel that does not require batteries. It will retail for $30. Both are set to launch in the fall at Toys R Us.
