SanDisk announces faster USB-C flash drives and microSD cards at Mobile World Conference

Today, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, SanDisk has announced a new line of flash drives for USB-C devices. With Apple and Google both introducing this new connector over the last year, it’s no surprise that SanDisk has made this move. More below.

SanDisk’s latest flash drive uses USB-C connectivity to deliver speeds up to 150MB/s. It is available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities. According the press release, the larger model is SanDisk’s “fastest and highest capacity” USB-C offering to date. It also has a reversible design with a retractable connector.

Today’s announcement is the latest in a string of USB-C compatible products that have been released in Q1. The versatile medium is attractive for consumers and manufacturers alike as more devices begin to support this standard. Dinesh Bahal, Vice President of Product Marketing, explains further:

“We expect to see many new USB Type-C supported devices released in 2016. As more consumers purchase ultra-mobile PCs, smartphones and tablets that feature this new, more advanced USB standard, it is critical to offer a complete ecosystem of compatible products. New offerings, like our SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash Drive, will give consumers the capabilities they’ve come to expect from traditional Type A ports, but with the added benefit of better performance.”

SanDisk’s new USB-C offerings are available today from Amazon at the following price points:

Additionally, SanDisk announced a handful of new microSD cards with the “world’s fastest transfer speeds.” Available in 64 and 128GB capacities, these cards are capable of transfer speeds of up to 275MB/s

“Action cameras are now the fastest-growing segment in digital imaging and drones are becoming increasingly popular, creating an opportunity for people to capture more high-capacity, high-quality 4K Ultra HD content,” said Dinesh Bahal, vice president, product marketing, SanDisk. “We designed this card specifically to address consumers’ needs for a faster solution when transferring massive files – and now, with nearly 3x the speed of our fastest microSD UHS-I card, this new offering dramatically reduces time spent transferring content.”

SanDisk is set to release this new microSD cards at Q2. The 64GB model will retail for $179.99 and the 128GB at $299.99.
