Nextbit has announced via a short blog post that it’s kicking off a limited time sale to celebrate its phone, the Robin, landing on Amazon. Between today and May 10th, you can order the Nextbit Robin for $299 SIM-free and unlocked in either Mint (green/white) or Midnight (navy). That’s $100 (25%) cheaper than it would normally cost to order from Nextbit direct. For $300, this phone is no slouch.
There’s no doubt that the Nextbit Robin was one of last year’s most innovative — or at the very least, interesting — smartphones. By building a system powered by the cloud, the Android smartphone can free up space on the device by automatically erasing rarely used apps and data, and storing their saved data in the cloud until you need it again. Of all the phones that came out last year, as I discovered at MWC, the Robin was the only one that I formed an immediate positive emotional attachment to. I like its look, feel and clean, intuitive user interface.
Apart from its unique design and cloud backup feature, the specs are great too, especially for the price:
- 5.2-inch 1080p IPS display
- Corning Gorilla Glass 4
- 13MP rear camera with PDAF and dual-tone flash
- Stereo front-facing speakers w/dual amplifiers
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB storage + 100GB cloud storage
- 5MP selfie camera
- Side-mounted fingerprint sensor
- Quick-Charge 2.0 support
- USB Type C connector
- Bluetooth 4.0
What’s particularly cool for the modders and flashers out there is that you can unlock the bootloader, load a custom ROM like CyanogenMod 13, use virtually any GSM carrier, and still never void your warranty. In other words, it’s clean, highly customizable and keeps up with some of the best phones available right now.
If you’ve been wanting to snag one for a while but found it a little too expensive, you can head over to Amazon any time over the next week and grab it with $100 discount. Or to find out more before taking the plunge, check out our unboxing and initial hands-on.
