Anker takes the wraps off new slim iPhone 7 battery case with Lightning port access

We all know the painful feeling of realizing that your iPhone battery is set to die. As Jerry Seinfeld says, it feels like you’re dying. Ok, maybe it’s not that bad. But still, no one wants to be in that situation. Apple tries to cure those woes with its official $99 battery case but that’s a rather expensive add-on. In response, Anker is looking to ease your power struggles with its new PowerCore Case for iPhone 7.

There are a few intriguing aspects to this MFi-certified case, including its silicone casing and a unique charging solution. Best of all, it comes in at a significant discount over Apple’s official option.

Anker is one of the most trusted third-party brands on the market today and we regularly feature deals on its products here at 9to5Toys. It’s important when purchasing an accessory like a battery case to make sure that it is officially approved by Apple’s MFi program. Brands like Mophie offers similar products but tend to charge in the $80-$100 range for its latest generation models.

So where does Anker’s price fall? The new PowerCore Case for iPhone 7 is selling for $51.99 on Amazon right now. As you may have noticed over the last six months, we’ve seen very few iPhone 7 battery case deals. There simply hasn’t been the same market for this product as previous generation devices. Anker is known for offering discounts so you can expect to see this new release fall below $40 in the coming months.

L-R: Mophie, Anker, and Apple Battery Cases

On to the specs, the PowerCore case has a built-in 2200mAh battery that will provide an extra 11 hours of talk time, 10 hours of video and 32 hours of audio. One of the particularly unique aspects of its design is that the Lightning port is left uncovered when not being used for charging. Many battery cases on the market today cover up the iPhone 7’s charging port, leaving users with no access for other third-party accessories.

Anker solves this issue by including a small built-in Lightning cable that pops off the case and plugs in when needed. Some will not care for this design, but short of spending $100 on Apple’s official case, it’s one of the only ways to leverage a battery case and Lightning accessories. Refilling the external power supply is handled by a microUSB port on the bottom.

The case itself adds just 0.6mm of thickness on the sides, with some additional bulge on the back. It is made from silicone so installation should be easier than some of the hard rubber cases we’ve seen. Anker designed the PowerCore to always be compatible with iPhone 6/s, as well.

Anker’s PowerCore Case for iPhone 7 is available for purchase today for $51.99 at Amazon. An 18-month warranty is included with purchase alongside a microUSB charging cable.

Seattle, WASHINGTON — Anker, a world renowned consumer electronics company, released the PowerCore iPhone Case 2200 yesterday, a new protective case for the iPhone with an integrated 2200 mAh battery. The case is available now on Amazon for $51.99.

“We designed this case to protect and charge the iPhone at the same time,” said Anker CEO Steve Yang, “The ability to both protect and power high usage devices such as smartphones is an amazing development. People can now minimize clutter and maximize efficiency while remaining connected to each other and the digital world.”

The case has a capacity of 2200mAh, providing approximately a 0-80% full charge for the iPhone 7. This roughly translates to 10+ hours of video, 10+ hours of voice call, or 32+ hours of audio. Despite this increase in battery life, the actual battery case only adds 0.23 inches to the phone.

Charging the case battery is simple with the micro USB cable included with every purchase. The lightning cable attached to the battery is also MFI certified, meaning that the case will work safely with iPhones. Additionally, while the cable is not in use, the cable can be tucked away so it does not impede access to the iPhone lightning port. This is a feature that sets it apart from most smart phone protective cases in the market.

Product Specs:

Dimensions: 141mm X 70mm X 15.3 mm

Weight: 62 grams

Input: 5V = 1A

Output: 5V = 1A

Capacity: 2200 mAh

“When we look at the developments in this field,” Yang iterated, “We don’t just see a phone case. We see security. This is a step forward in providing the consumer with an ever present backup plan when all other charging options are extinguished”
