Teodoor offers full smart lock functionality in the ‘world’s smallest package’

Our homes continue to become more intelligent and connected with the integration of lighting systems, speakers, security cameras and even door locks. A lot of the time though, these devices feature designs that aren’t meant to complement the styles of one’s home, but in fact clash with the existing decor. The team of Slovenian developers behind Teodoor hopes to change this with its stylishly designed smart lock which features hands-free entry.

Teodoor contends that its recently unveiled smart lock is the ‘smallest one available on the market’, which is echoed by the device’s minimalistic and low-profile design. Unlike many of the other smart door locks on the market, Teodoor attempts to blend into its surroundings, rather than contrast the existing style. Available with silver, gold and black finishes, the lock should pair well with your existing fixtures.

Despite Teodoor’s small form-factor, the smart lock houses an impressive amount of technology and features. Two models of the lock will be available, one which comes equipped with Bluetooth only, and another that sports Wi-Fi as well. In both cases, it enables hands-free access to one’s home by pairing with a companion smartphone application.

When you and your phone come within 100 feet of the lock, you’re recognized through the Teodoor app. The clever part is that once you’re authenticated, the smart lock will wait until you’re within roughly five feet of the door before automatically unlocking. The lock can also be operated manually from the app so that you can lock your front door from your bed, the office, or anywhere with an internet connection.

The lock also sports a variety of safety oriented features as well. If a phone synced with the lock is lost or stolen, Teodoor’s web app allows you to revoke access from that device. The smart lock also utilizes an encryption algorithm to ensure that no private information about users can be retrieved from the device.

Teodoor’s smart lock will be available for preorder shortly, following the launch of its Kickstarter campaign. You can head to the company’s website for more info and to sign up for availability alerts. While the exact date is unknown, the smart lock will probably be shipping by the end of the year and will retail for $99 for the Bluetooth model, or $149 for the Wi-Fi version. Competing against AugustKwikset and other locks won’t be an easy feat, but assuming all goes well with the campaign, we might have a contender.

“There are many smart locks on the market right now that provide keyless entry, but we’re excited to be the first to design a truly ‘hands-free’ lock with a wide range of convenient possibilities for home owners. With Teodoor, not only can you leave your smartphone in your purse or pocket, but you don’t even have to have the app open to unlock the front door.”
