Logitech unveils K840 Mechanical Keyboard with custom in-house switches

Today, Logitech has unveiled its new K840 Mechanical Corded Keyboard, which targets a mainstream audience rather than focusing on gamers or programmers. Mechanical keyboards are typically fairly expensive and come with a bunch of extra bells and whistles that may deter some from adopting them. Logitech’s latest model shines by offering a simple but attractive design, custom mechanical switches and more.

For those who spend all day typing on a computer, laptop keyboards might not cut it for prolonged sessions. Mechanical keyboards offer several features to make typing a breeze and are often favored among the tech-savvy.

Extra tactile feedback helps keep your eyes on the screen and ultimately increases your typing speed and accuracy. Mechanical keyboards are also known for having much longer lifespans compared to chiclet styled ones. They wear out less quickly as well, so most mechanical models work and feel the same after prolonged use as they did on the first day.

Enter Logitech’s latest addition to its keyboard lineup, the K840, which is targeted towards a broader market than traditional mechanical keyboards are. While you won’t find an array of multi-color backlit keys or any other over-the-top functionality, this does pack in all the features that really matter.

Housed within a simple anodized aluminum case, the K840 mechanical keyboard sports a durable and solid construction. In order to compete with the extremely popular Cherry mechanical switches the keyboard includes Logitech’s own Romer-G switches. Rated for over 70 million keystrokes, the switches ensure a longer lifespan for the keyboard. The customer switches are also said to provide the same elevated typing experience, but with quieter operation.

Logitech’s new keyboard doesn’t skimp out on more traditional functionary either. The K840 doesn’t require any driver installation to get started, so it should be simple to set up. It includes a full number pad, media playback controls, reprogrammable function keys and connects over USB with an almost two meter long, durable cable. The K840 currently only notes support for Windows.

If you’ve wanted to try out a mechanical keyboard but felt lost trying to figure out which model or switches to choose from, Logitech’s solution may be exactly what you’re looking for. The K840 mechanical keyboard is now available for preorder for $79.99, which includes free shipping. While this may seem pricey, it’s fairly inexpensive compared to other similar mechanical keyboards on the market.

Trusted legacy. Lasting durability. The K840 mechanical keyboard features a solid aluminum build with expertly engineered Romer-GTM mechanical switches. Enjoy an elevated typing experience with distinct tactile feedback and quiet operation with every stroke. Designed to fit your productive environment at home or in the office. Tested for over 70 million strokes for long-lasting reliability, these Japanese-engineered keys function with a highly responsive and well-defined, light touch. Every keystroke provides a distinct tactile feedback and operates quietly.
