Beyond Zero’s liquor freezer puts your cocktail “in the rocks”

Fancy cocktails with smoking ice and artistic presentations are nothing new, but the folks at Beyond Zero are taking a unique approach. The Beyond Zero liquor freezer system is looking to revolutionize the cocktail world with what it describes as a new category of drink called “In the Rocks”.

It is widely known that throwing that bottle of vodka in the freezer for a while before you crack it open will make your drinks much smoother. But instead of waiting for the traditional ice to water down your $26 cocktail, Beyond Zero is taking another approach. The system will actually allow users to create liquor ice cubes, something not necessarily possible with a traditional freezer. By actually freezing the liquor and controlling the rate with which it dilutes in your drink, Beyond Zero says it is able to maintain the correct balance of flavors and alcohol right to the very bottom of the glass.

The first commercially available product of its kind, the Beyond Zero freezer is able to create pure liquor, wine or beer ice. In fact, it is able to transform an entire pre-made cocktail into slowly dissolving ice cubes. Not only will bartenders be able to create interesting artistic presentations with this tech readily available, but it will apparently keep your Bourbon neat to the last sip.

The creators say that when users pour another liquor or mix over one of the Beyond Zero liquor cubes, it will lightly smoke. This kind of visual will certainly be great for bartenders and cocktail creators. It isn’t as strong as something like liquid nitrogen, but it’s just enough to smoke up the glass and “look really cool”, according to the company. It can make up to 20 liquor cubes at once in around 25 mins for typical base liquors. Wines and high-proof batches will take between 3 and 12 minutes.

The system is two-fold. One unit actually creates the ice cubes, while the other will store them. At this point the storage unit is only able to carry a single flavor at once, but the company will be adding a divider system to keep things organized for business owners. As the product is still in its beta phase, there will be some changes and additions before it finally comes to market.

At which point, business owners or wealthy party throwers will have to reach into their pockets pretty deeply, as I’m sure you imagined. Currently sitting in “Reserve Now” status, the Beyond Zero liquor freezer is going to run you upwards of $8,000. Clearly this is not a machine intended for your average user at home, but rather for club owners and things of that nature. There doesn’t appear to be any specific time frames available in terms of release, but you can drop your details in right here for more information when it’s available.

If you’re looking to get artistic at home with the cocktails, Amazon has loads of awesome ice molds from around $12 Prime shipped or less including this highly rated and best-selling sphere option.
