Home security is up there with the most important things we keep track of in our lives. Luckily we live in a time with a plethora of advanced smart devices enhancing the ability to keep our homes safe. On the flip side, these new products tend to be more on the expensive side.
Homsecure is a new product on Kickstarter by Wavepod that is over 50% funded, and at this rate it should get the funding it needs by the end of the campaign. This smart home security device was created to give people a more affordable solution to quick and easy home setups. There’s no need to replace any of your existing alarms, there are no monthly fees, and the best part is that only one Homsecure device is necessary per household.
In addition to expensive smart alarm systems, security companies like ADT charge a relatively high monthly price. Wavepod stresses that Homsecure connects to your already existing home alarms and keep you updated anywhere, all for the price of a family dinner. As you only need to pay once for this single device, you’ll save over $400.
Homsecure works with your existing Wi-Fi and no hubs are required. The attached microphone values your privacy, according to Wavepod, and is only programmed to hear alarm sounds for smoke, carbon monoxide, water, and security.
To further compare with another security system, Homsecure is a device that does much more for much less. You can get a Nest Protect for over $100 per device which can add up to at least $600 per household, since you need one for each room. With Homsecure, you can keep your regular default smoke detectors and the device will pick up on the alarm sound, and get to work.
As could be assumed at this point, Homsecure comes with a smartphone app for both iOS and Android which is where you will receive notifications. It even comes with a Smart Mode where the device hears loud noises like doorbells from a delivery man or a baby crying, so you can be notified about even more occurrences.
Homsecure is a simple outlet cube that can be plugged into any outlet for immediate use. It works with your standard 802.11 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network at home and also includes TLS 1.2 and AES 256 bit Encryption. At a power outage, the backup battery will kick in for seamless continuous device usage.
Homsecure is available for pre-order on Kickstarter for $49 with expected delivery in February 2018. That’s 40% under the projected retail price, and a money saver compared to other home security devices mentioned above.
