The Bean 3D Printer is priced low with the consumer in mind

Kudo3D, a California-based company, has designed and built a high resolution, high performance 3D printer they’ve named the Bean. It has been specifically designed for the consumer market and offers a reliable low-cost resin 3D printer with the end user in mind. It’s been dubbed “the ultimate consumer SLA 3D printer,” and the Bean will be available from $400 during its Kickstarter campaign.

The Bean 3D printer is a full-fledged desktop SLA 3D printer that measures just 20 x 20 x 40cm in size and weighs only 6.67Kg or 15lbs. Resin printers (like the Bean) can now be made at a lower cost closer to the more popular FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printers while still maintaining a print quality better than most of them according to the manufacturer.

For a 3D printer, the Bean is pretty stylish, portable and sleek. It’s also pre-calibrated before it gets shipped and comes with a spring loaded self-leveling build platform. Bean currently uses a tool chain of software and is controlled by web browser. The company says it will start developing an integrated version after the Kickstarter campaign has ended.

The Bean uses Kudo3D’s standard of “bottom-up” printing technology. Kudo3D is known for its patented “passive self-peeling (PSP) technology”, which utilizes a bottom-up SLA process and reduces the separation force between the layers of the print and the resin container, which should give users a higher resolution and better quality prints.

Dr. Tedd Syao, the founder of Kudo3D has said:

3D printing is considered one of the next disruptive new technologies. However, what good is a new technology if a large group of people do not have access to it? We, at Kudo3D, hope to be the answer to this problem. It has always been our mission statement, and we have always worked towards providing the best for our users. We strongly believe that with the new printer, there will be a great shift towards the advancement of the 3D printing industry.

With more than a month left in its campaign the Bean 3D printer has already surpassed its fundraising goal (and then some!). A pledge of $400 will get you your very own Bean 3D printer and starter pack with resin and other essentials to begin. Shipping is estimated to begin in January of 2018.
