Wink Bright is a quick-and-easy first step to smart home security

Wink products are generally known for inexpensive smart devices for the home, with ideas similar to Nest and WeMo. Originally Wink was a smartphone app that combined the smart home control experience into one single app. Its devices are not the highest-rated smart devices out there, but it seems that for the most part it does the job.

Today the company introduced Wink Bright, a smart lighting essentials kit for the home. It brings compatible hardware to safety services Home Sitter and Moonlight, which can both be configured via Wink’s newly updated smartphone app. The bundle contains one Wink Hub 2 and two Sylvania Smart A19 dimmable light bulbs.

The idea is to bring a plug-and-play solution that arrives with included light bulbs that are connected to Wink Hub 2 right out of the box. Once plugged in and wirelessly connected, the Wink app will detect Wink Bright and immediately guide users through a quick setup process. It’s a good start for those looking to make the smart home switch, but yet do not completely know where to begin.

Home Sitter and Moonlight are each included in Wink’s mobile app and provide “friendly, non-intimidating home safety solutions,” and both work with all Wink-compatible lighting products. Home Sitter will automatically turn on and off lights in your home to naturally mimic inner-house presence. Moonlight has lights turned on inside or outside the house by the time you return home, using predetermined settings.

If these features sound familiar to you, Philips Hue might be what comes to mind. It’s a smart lighting kit that tends to come with a Google Home, and performs similar operations. Just like with Wink Bright, this allows users to create light schedules and manage your lights from a smartphone app. If we’re comparing the Wink Bright with the Philips Hue Starter Kit, Wink’s product is a bit more for an easy-setup system that basically does everything for you.

Wink Bright is available for pre-order for $119 starting today at Wink.com and Home Depot. Home Sitter and Moonlight are free services included within Wink’s smartphone app, available for both iOS and Android.
