Canon unveils the latest gen SELPHY wireless printer with AirPrint & LCD display

While they are reducing in size and complexity everyday, your typical home printer can still be quite cumbersome as anything more than a stationary office utility. That’s where smaller, more portable photo printers and the like come into play. Canon and Polaroid immediately come to mind with the SELPHY and the Zip mobile printers, respectively. These products offer up a much more simple and streamlined process, not to mention a much smaller footprint than your typical home options. And now, Canon is looking to push the market forward once again as it is set to launch the latest model in the compact photo printer SELPHY series…

Not unlike its predecessor, the SELPHY CP1200, the new CP1300 works with all major cameras and smartphones over Wi-Fi. It boasts just about everything the previous generation model has, along with some notable improvements.

It works with the Canon PRINT App, AirPrint, Wireless PictBridge and more. In fact, using Party Shuffle Print mode, multiple users can connect their devices all at once enabling SELPHY CP1300 to create print layouts encompassing all of the best photos from your family and friends simultaneously.

The idea of having a selfie photo party with a bunch of people all sending photos from their own phone to a printer sounds like an absolute nightmare to me in the best case scenario. But I like the concept of being able to create print jobs from multiple devices whether it be through the Canon app, AirPrint or whatever works best for that piece of gear.

Other enhancements include a larger 3.2-inch tilt-type LCD monitor, redesigned user interface elements and what Canon is referring to as a new photo booth friendly layout option. This essentially means the CP1300 has the ability to print off those 2 x 6-inch photo strips we all remember from the old photo booths.

Additionally, there is an optional direct battery connection allowing the machine to run completely wire-free. There are also a series of border settings which allow photos to be printed border-free or with specific colors/layouts and more.

The new SELPHY CP1300 compact Wi-Fi printer will sell for $129.99 shipped in white and black, while the previous gen model sits at around $95 or so on Amazon with solid review scores.

Speaking of printers, we have the Canon PIXMA All-in-one Printer with AirPrint for just $37 shipped (Reg. $49).
