Electric skateboards from Huger Tech hit Indiegogo w/ affordability, features in mind

Electric skateboards have slid onto the scene with solid response from consumers in recent years as city dwellers look for an alternative to costly transportation. Some designs have been hit or miss, while Boosted has risen to the top as an industry standard. Huger Tech is looking to get in on this trend with a trio of new electric skateboards on Indiegogo with attractive designs and smart features. Each of which feature a hub motor that provides different max speeds and range. Full details below.

The first of three models is the Classic, which has a single motor that tops out at 15mph. Riders can expect to get up to nine-miles of range on a full charge. It’s made to feel just like your typical skateboard that is not battery powered, which means each manual push won’t be boosted by much energy from the built-in power supply. As with all of the models, it is powered by a handheld remote and has built-in LED head and taillights. Early bird pricing is set at $299 with a final MSRP of $499 when it hits online shelves.

Huger’s mid-range board, the ‘Travel’, adds a number of features like boosting the top speed up to 20mph and increasings the range to 22-miles. But the real change comes with more battery power that can handle up to 20% gradients, making it perfect for climbing streets and hills. There are also LED lights built-in to aid with GPS navigation. This safety feature is designed to keep riders from looking at their smartphone constantly. You can pledge $599 today as an early bird backer before the price jumps to $899.

Finally, those looking to go big will want to jump on the Racer Longboard. Top-speed jumps to 25mph while range falls to 20-miles. This jump in power also brings the ability to handle 25% inclines. Oddly enough, there isn’t any built-in GPS lights on this model. The Racer model gets a special early bird discount to $599 as well, with regular pricing set at $1,199.

All of Huger Tech’s upcoming electric skateboards are IPX6 waterproof with removable batteries that can be interchanged without tools. The ability to swap out power supplies on-the-go versus recharging at home is a major selling point of these boards. A second battery will run early backers $149 ahead of October’s final $199 price tag.

With a month remaining, Huger has doubled its initial $30,000 goal on Indiegogo. If all goes to plan, it will begin shipping out its new electric skateboards in October.
