Return to Rapture on Mac later this year with BioShock Remastered

The world of gaming has spawned some of the most interesting and enduring franchises in entertainment over the years. Whether it’s the fantasy escapism of titles from the Zelda and Final Fantasy series or the introduction of groundbreaking mechanics in Metal Gear, video games are here to stay. Some of the most globally recognizable characters in history come from the minds of game creators: Mario, Link, Mega Man and more. Among an elite group of modern-day franchises, the BioShock series is easily one of the most beloved and cherished IPs of the last decade.

It has been 10-years since the original BioShock was released on PC/consoles, and to celebrate Feral Interactive is now announcing the release of Return to Rapture: BioShock Remastered for macOS.

Essentially the Mac port of the newly remastered version found in BioShock: The Collection for PS4, Xbox One and PC, this will be the first time Mac gamers will be able to play/purchase the 1080p up-res. While Feral doesn’t mention anything specifically about the game’s DLC, we are expecting it to be included in the package the same way it is in the Collection bundle, but we can’t say for sure.

Originally developed by Ken Levine and the folks at the now disbanded Irrational Games, BioShock first hit store shelves on August 21st, 2007.

Well, for those unfamiliar with the world of BioShock, shame on you. This is easily one of the greatest artistic-interactive experiences made in the last decade or so that happens to be set in one the most interesting fictional environments I can think of.

The original BioShock sweeps players into an alternate version of the 1960’s where you will need to unravel the mysteries of Rapture. The art-deco utopia gone horribly wrong is situated entirely underwater and it is a sight to behold. However, this is an action/shooter game after all, so you will have a large arsenal of weapons and interesting abilities to protect yourself while traversing the massive underwater city.

Without giving any spoilers, in case for some entirely unbelievable reason you have not played this one yet, the story is just as good as the setting and the gameplay.

BioShock: Infinite is one of my personal favorite games of all time, with the original not far behind it, so this is one remaster I have no complaints about.

At this point we don’t have an official release date on the remaster outside of sometime later this year. Nor do we have the system requirements and finalized pricing, but we will update this post when the information becomes available. It will be sold on the Feral Store, Mac App Store and Steam.
