Next generation bone-conduction Trekz Air headphones from AfterShokz

Today at IFA 2017, AfterShokz showcased its next generation bone-conduction headphones. With a significantly lighter design and a seemingly more streamlined form-factor, the company is looking to take its unique listening experience to the next level with the new AfterShokz Trekz Air headphones…

This will be AfterShokz’ third generation headphones following the Blues 2S and the Trekz Titanium. By the looks of it, the new Airs will carry much of the same tech as the previous gen Titanium model, while thinning out the overall footprint by about 17%.

On top of the lighter form-factor and an IP55 water resistance rating, you can expect an extended Bluetooth 4.2 range and a 20 to 20kHz frequency response spectrum. A 20-day standby battery life comes along with on-board controls that allow you to take calls and adjust audio playback as needed.

Just a quick note on bone-conduction. AfterShokz uses technology which allows the headphone to essentially sit above the ear rather than inside it like your typical earphone. They beam out mini vibrations that carry through the cheekbone and into the inner-ear. Which can be beneficial for safety in some cases.

You’re certainly not getting any kind of noise cancellation here, but that is sort of the point. Trekz Air leaves users fully aware of their surroundings when biking, running and other activities where that may be necessary. This sort of technology can be perfect for those that just don’t agree with the fit of a typical in-ear on long runs or strenuous workouts as well.

Pre-orders will kick-off tomorrow for the new Trekz Air on the AfterShokz site at $149.95 shipped (Slate Grey only).
