Sony TGS 2017: Monster Hunter World, Left Alive, Final Fantasy, more [Video]

Sony kicked off the 2017 Tokyo Game Show with an early showcase event highlighting some pretty major announcements. On top of a new trailer and an official release date for Monster Hunter World, we saw special edition PlayStation 4 Pros, a new game from Square Enix and more footage of the Shadow Colossus remake for PS4. A classic Hideo Kojima game and an enhanced version of Final Fantasy IX will both be coming to current gen Sony hardware. Head below for all the details.

Easily one of the most anticipated titles on the horizon for PlayStation (and Xbox One) gamers is Monster Hunter World. January 26th, 2018 will mark the series’ return to PS hardware after a long run on Nintendo systems. Capcom also unveiled the special editions of the game along with pre-order bonuses and a brand new trailer.

The Digital Deluxe Edition will go for $69.99 along with a series of goodies including the Samurai Set skin, three gestures, two sticker sets, extra face paint/hair style options and 14 weapon-themed PSN avatars (PlayStation 4/Pro only).

The North American Collector’s Edition includes everything from the Digital Deluxe package as well as a 32-page hardcover art book, flagship monster statue, and the digital soundtrack for $149.99. Pre-orders on the special editions are set to begin on September 20th.

We get a look at some new monsters and a new areas of the map including Coral Highlands and Astera. Take a look for yourself above.

There is even a Monster Hunter World Special Edition PS4 Pro coming to Japan. Here’s to hoping we see something like this stateside.

Square Enix actually dropped an announcement teaser trailer for its new mech game Left Alive as well. Details are hard to come by on this one but it looks quite exciting. Interestingly enough, Metal Gear’s well known character designer Yoji Shinkawa is involved with Left Alive alongside Toshifumi Nabeshima who previously worked on Armored Core, another popular mech-based action game. It is set for release in 2018 on PS4 and is described as a “survival-action shooter.”
