Yeehaw wand is a first of its kind device that lets you draw in 3D using AR

Sure there are numerous 3D printers out there now, but how can we easily create new 3D renderings to use with them? Typically we would need to know how to design in complex and expensive software. But now, the Yeehaw wand uses augmented reality to easily create in 3D and is currently being funded on Indiegogo.

Using this new design tool almost anyone can create 3D objects and print them. The creators even emphasize that you won’t even have to learn complex 3D software. Simply sketch 3D objects in the air and then print them on a 3D printer with just the press of a button.

The Yeehaw app is reportedly very intuitive once you begin using it. The on-board sensors pick up each movement of the wand and you see your design on the screen in real-time. Better yet, the Yeehaw app also lets you interact with your 3D design. So now you can select, rotate, move and even resize your creation all with just your fingers. Then, you can view your design in real life with AR to see how it looks. If you like it, you can send it to print. You have the choice of the Yeehaw 3D printer (sold separately), a 3rd party 3D printer, or the Yeehaw printing service to get your creation delivered to you.

With a month left in its campaign, the Yeehaw wand has already met its fundraising goal of $25,000. If you would like to get your own wand you can pledge $149 or more and get one off the Super Early Bird special. That’s $70 off the future retail price and the lowest you can get it for. You’ll get the wand, its plate, a phone/tablet dock and a wide-angle lens. Even better they promise it will ship before Christmas.

While developing the Yeehaw 3D printer last year, we found that a lot of users were really interested in this new technology, but didn’t have the skill to build their own models. Most of them told us they found 3D technology fascinating but didn’t have time to learn a 3D modeling programme, and wished they could just sketch something normally, like with their hands. So, we tried to find available technology to support this demand so people could use the printer. But we just couldn’t find anything that was really easy to use and affordable.

So, we decided to use the most modern technical expertise we could to develop this idea for our users at the lowest price possible so it would be accessible and affordable to regular people who just wanted to start making 3D things at home. We felt AR was the best fit for what we wanted to achieve and then we started work on this project.
