Gnarbox is the mobile editing studio for on-the-go photographers

Editing photos and video to share with your friends isn’t always the easiest when on-the-go. Back in 2015, Gnarbox launched on Kickstarter to solve this very issue, and now following a successful campaign, is ready to bring its mobile editing features to the masses. The pocket-sized computer allows you to backup, organize, edit and share HD content on your smartphone all without relying on a laptop.

Despite the ubiquity of smartphones equipped with high-quality cameras, many still rely on DSLRs, action cams and drones to capture the world around them. Using these devices often times comes with the cost of having to rely on a laptop or editing rig to adjust the footage, which isn’t always ideal or practical. That’s where Gnarbox comes in, to provide an on-the-go solution for editing, sharing and organizing your photos and video.

At its core, Gnarbox is a lightweight computer rocking a Quad-Core GPU and 2GB of RAM alongside 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and a variety of high-speed inputs. An internal 4000mAh battery powers the device for up to 6 hours and a microUSB charging port allows for powering up when out-and-about as well. This entire package is then wrapped in a shock and dust-proof, rugged housing perfect for accompanying you on backpacking trips and other places you wouldn’t dare bring your laptop.

So how exactly does Gnarbox work? Well first you’ll plug in your SD card, MicroSD, hard drive or other storage device into the mini computer. Then once the companion iOS and Android app has been fired up, you’ll be able to begin editing your photos and videos on the fly. What’s even better, Gnarbox is said to handle anything from 4K footage to massive .RAW images with ease. Once you’ve applied your artistic touches, Gnarbox will save the content to its hard drive and export it directly to your smartphone in full resolution for sharing.

Gnarbox can be used to store and organize your files as well. Its card readers and USB 3.0 ports boast up to 4GB/min transfer rates to quickly get your files backed up quickly. An external hard drive can be connected as well to add extra storage to the mobile editing station.

The mobile editing device comes in two models that are differentiated by the amount of included storage. On the more budget-friendly side you’ll find a Gnarbox packed with 128GB of memory for $300, while stepping up a tier gets you double the storage for $400. Gnarbox is sold at retailers like Amazon and B&H and is currently shipping. It’s been a big hit with those who backed the Kickstarter campaign as well as early adapters on Amazon. If you always find yourself exploring the great outdoors and are looking for a way to quickly edit and share your content, Gnarbox seems to offer a pretty compelling option.
