After last year’s (not) borderline ridiculous Jim Beam Apple Watch contraption that packs a 1.5 oz. shot glass directly on your wrist, the company behind the “world’s best-selling bourbon” is back at it again. Another interesting piece of technology is on the slate for this year. This time around it is taking a cue from Amazon smart assistants and the like for its first-ever smart decanter.
This is essentially a fancy shot pourer specifically for Jim Beam bourbon. Despite the company referring to it as a “smart” decanter, JIM is really just a hilarious way to carry and pour your bourbon from the looks of it.
You won’t be able to ask it the weather or order you a pizza, and it won’t offer up notifications. Well, actually you can ask it all those things, and it will respond in most cases, but not necessarily in the way you would expect.
For example, if you ask: “JIM, what’s the weather today?” He will respond with the world’s greatest smart-assistant answer to that particular question: “I have no idea, but I do know it’s the perfect weather to enjoy bourbon.” Or you can ask JIM what the best way to enjoy bourbon is and he will respond with the only correct answer to said query “Any damn way you please”. Thanks JIM!
And the voice you’re hearing, that’s none other than Jim Beam’s 7th generation master distiller, Fred Noe. And man did he nail it. Check it out in the video below.
Clearly the folks at Jim Beam have succeeded in combining the best parts of silicon valley with some Kentucky charm here, but don’t expect JIM to be much help outside of pouring a drink.
While initial pre-order runs have sold out, it is possible we see more come available in the near future. The $34.90 MSRP is certainly reasonable here considering this is essentially just a Jim Beam bottle holder with a spout and some hilarious chatter. Here’s to hoping more stock comes available, but to be honest just watching the video alone makes this whole thing worth it:
