Leica announces limited edition M Typ 262 in a red anodized finish

Leica has long been a brand recognized for high-end cameras. The camera company is nearly 170 years old, and they’re still putting out fantastic quality cameras today. A Leica isn’t something you buy a starter photographer, however. With most of the company’s cameras in the few thousand dollar range, you should know what you’re doing before picking one up. A few years ago, Leica announced a more affordable M line of cameras, and today they’re expanding that.

The Leica M Typ 262 Red Anodized Finish is identical to the normal Leica M Typ 262 camera, except in a limited edition red design. This design is intended to mimic Leica’s limited edition APO-Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 ASPH red anodized finish lens. There were only a few of those lenses made and you can’t get them directly from Leica anymore.

This limited edition camera is set to only have a few made as well, around 100 according to Leica’s website. This means that if you want to hold a piece of photography gear that’ll last a lifetime in your hands, you better act now.

At $6,995 these cameras are not cheap by any means, but you really do get what you pay for. With its 24MP still image sensor, the Leica M series of cameras can capture stunning pictures. The ISO range is from 200-6400 and includes an auto ISO setting, though when shooting with Leica most people go fully manual.

There is no electronic viewfinder, but a regular manual one akin to older cameras. The Leica M series uses SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards so storage isn’t a huge deal here. The shutter speed ranges from 1/4000s to 60s when in bulb mode, to capture fast moving or dark photographs alike.

Leica’s M series of cameras can take photos in DNG and JPEG. The DNG format is what you’ll most likely use because this is a RAW uncompressed format.

There is no video recording on Leica’s M series of cameras, so if you’re buying this, just know it’s for still photos only. With a 3FPS max rate of taking pictures, you can capture some cool still images of fast-moving life.

These cameras feature a full-frame sensor as well so depth-of-field and colors will be phenomenal.

The Leica M Typ 262 Red Anodized Finish is available for pre-order at $6,995 from the company’s website. Remember, only 100 of these cameras are being made, so you need to act fast if you want to grab Leica’s latest limited edition product.
