Blitzen takes your booze on a wild and cold rooftop ride w/ 100-lb. magnets

I’ve done it. You’ve done it. We’ve all done it. Sometimes you’re on your way to a party and the brews are still warm. No one wants that. So instead of holding your beverage of choice outside the Uber window for the next 15 minutes, here’s a new – and kind of crazy way – to chill your drinks before a holiday party.

Blitzen is a rooftop-mounted beverage cooler that uses some crazy strength to keep your growler, wine or champagne stuck to the roof of your car while in route. This isn’t some plastic carrier from Amazon, we’re talking industrial strength tech here that will keep your valuable booze in place at top speeds.

Yeah, I hear you. Blitzen is kind of crazy. But at the some time, crazy is sometimes just what you need. This rooftop beverage cooler is simple in theory but appears to be beautifully executed. At its core, Blitzen simply straps down just about any size bottle to your roof and leverages outdoor temperatures to chill your drink.

Where it shines is the attention to detail and top-grade materials. Blitzen is held to the roof of your car with 100-pound industrial magnets that “guarantee” your drink will stay in place, even while navigating tricky turns.

Just above the magnets are a pair of aluminum rails that cradle the bottle or growler. Adjustable straps are then wrapped around said beverage and are snapped in place at multiple stress points to ensure safe arrival at your destination.

Cooling time depends on ambient temperature, car speed, and a whole lot of other factors that some of our engineers here spent way too much time calculating. The same goes for lateral G force and speed calculations. It was like a flashback to Calc 2.

Look, it’s not exactly clear how well Blitzen works, or if your drinks are going to be shaken so violently that an explosion is waiting upon arrival at the party. But one thing I know is for sure, this high-end ski rack turned booze cruise deserves to be on every cab in New York.

Deeplocal, the folks behind Blitzen, have yet to unveil final pricing on its latest invention. However, they do promise that this is all too real and will be coming to production before long. If you’re interested, drop your email address here on the official landing page and Deeplocal will send you an update as production ramps up.

In the meantime, here’s a beer bottle holster that is sure to catch some attention this holiday season. It’s $7.50 at Amazon and you should buy it because the holidays deserve a cold one attached to an appendage.
