This morning Twelve South has taken the wraps off its newest release, the PencilSnap for Apple Pencil. It is made of leather and designed to attach to just about any iPad case with the idea of securing Apple’s easy-to-lose input device. Not to long ago, Apple announced a similar product with the same $29 price tag. Twelve South’s new product takes the idea to another level with a few subtle features.
PencilSnap attaches to your iPad Pro case with a series of “strong” integrated magnets. Two leather versions are available, in camel or black, with detailed stitching and the Twelve South logo embossed.
There are a few key differences between Apple’s own case and the new one announced today by Twelve South. Most notably is the handy magnet.
Apple’s in-house version delivers a snug hold on Apple Pencil, but is still free to fall out of your bag or hand. Meanwhile, the Twelve South iteration secures to just about any iPad Pro cover, adding an extra layer of security.

Twelve South obviously doesn’t have the benefit of exclusive Apple colors like (Product)RED, but the basic brown and black combo is going to be suitable for most professional environments.
The new Twelve South PencilSnap is set to retail for $29.99, which is $1 more than Apple’s in-house alternative. It’s available to ship today in two colors.
If you’re in need of an alternative, there are plenty of other low-priced options on the market today. MoKo makes its own version for $6 that comes in a number of different colors. In fact, over 600 Amazon customers have left a combined 4.4/5 star rating, making this an a viable alternative.
