Kylin M is a new gimbal stabilizer that works with DSLRs, smartphones, and action cameras

Getting stable video can sometimes be a challenge. Whether you’re capturing video with your smartphone, action camera, or DSLR, keeping the camera from shaking is always a pain. That’s where handheld gimbals come in, though generally, they can set you back a pretty penny. There are smartphone gimbals like the DJI Osmo Mobile, and when it comes to action cameras, there’s the GoPro Karma Grip.

If you want to stabilize your DSLR, however, those options are slightly more expensive and can be harder to use, depending on what you get. Kylin M aims to change just that by providing a single stabilizer that works with all types of cameras, from beginners with phones, to professionals with the Panasonic GH5, the Kylin M can balance them all.

Kylin M has a rotating handle to make holding the gimbal that much easier. If you’ve ever used a gimbal before, then you know how hard it can be to hold it sometimes, especially when a heavier camera, like the Panasonic GH5 or Sony A7, is on it.

Kylin M’s handle is foldable to provide many different ways of holding the camera. One of my favorite positions is holding the camera from above. In this mode, the camera dangles below the gimbal giving you better control over the movements, in my opinion.

Normally, you hold a gimbal from behind or below, positioning the camera in front or above your hand. This can make some movements awkward and choppy, even with the stabilizing features of the gimbal.

The Kylin M also features a BUS extension port so that way you can add features to the gimbal without having to replace areas of it. There is also a connection port so you can plug the gimbal into your camera. This is currently limited to Panasonic and Sony for now.

Why would you want to plug a gimbal into your camera? There are many reasons, honestly. Controlling the shutter/record function, time-lapse, and many other features could be integrated through this camera to gimbal connection.

If you would like to use the gimbal for a time-lapse, there is a ¼-20 screw mount on the bottom allowing for easy attachment to a tripod, slider, and more.

There are built-in following modes as well to assist you in capturing stunning video. Pan track mode locks the roll and tilt axis and just lets the gimbal pan left and right following your arm movement. Lock mode means that there is no gimbal movement, and you have to use the joystick to actuate the camera.

Omni track mode locks the roll axis while allowing pan and tilt to follow your movement. Roll track mode locks pan and tilt, so the gimbal just rolls with your arm or joystick.

Because of its dual batteries, Kylin M can run for around 12-hours of use. Or, if you have a camera control cable connected that supports charging, the gimbal can actually power your camera to keep it from running dead while on a shoot.

Adjusting the balance of Kylin M is also super quick and easy, using thumbscrews to adjust the position of the camera for optimal balance.

There is even a wireless connection option for Kylin M so you can connect to your phone for software updates and setting controls.

With a starting price of $239 on IndiegogoKylin M won’t break the bank for the features offered. Delivery is slated for April 2018, which means you won’t have to wait super long before getting your new gimbal, either. With nearly a month left to go on Indiegogo, over 700% of funding has already been raised.
