For many home cinema and audio enthusiasts, Denon makes some of the best-sounding and most reliable sound systems on the market. And for those invested in the company’s line of HEOS HomeCinema devices, Denon has finally taken the wraps off its latest and greatest soundbar to enter alongside the app-enabled sound systems. Touting Alexa support alongside high-resolution audio playback and more, Denon’s latest looks to give other soundbars a run for their money.

The next generation of Denon’s HEOS HomeCinema sound system packs a familiar form-factor its previous models, but with an overhauled set of features. The soundbar is based around a pair of 5-inch drivers which are backed by two 20mm tweeters. Combined with the ability to play high-resolution audio files like FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD, the HEOS HomeCinema HS2 Soundbar outputs crisp and complex audio, at least according to Denon.

As with just about any other high-end soundbar, Denon’s latest rocks the typical array of HDMI, 3.5mm aux and optical inputs, but also Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to boast advanced features like AirPlay and iOS/Android app control. Its HDMI port sports Ultra HD 4K video pass-through and a USB input allows you to plug in external storage devices to audio playback.

Alongside its smartphone control, the HEOS HomeCinema HS2 Soundbar is the first in Denon’s lineup to boast Amazon Alexa support. Thanks to a skill coming later this year, you’ll be able to use the lovely digital assistant to command your home theater’s audio setup.

Aside from its array of new specs and features, one of the selling points from Denon’s latest is its ability to interface with other HEOS speakers and sound systems. While its backwards compatibility may not seem like the most noteworthy or defining feature, it allows the HS2 Soundbar to join in a multi-room audio setup similar to the likes of Sonos. So for those hesitant to upgrade from an older model, you’ll at least be able to put existing devices to work alongside the new flagship HEOS soundbar.

Adding Denon’s latest to your home theater unfortunately isn’t going to be cheap. With more dedicated audio buffs in mind, the HEOS HomeCinema HS2 Soundbar  will run you £699, or just over $860. That may be a lot for a voice-controlled soundbar, but for those wanting a low-profile and all-in-one sound system, Denon’s looks to be one of the most compelling options on the market.
