Sinemia to cash in on MoviePass controversies by offering US movie ticket subscription

Today, Sinemia announced that it will offer its movie ticket subscription service in the United States. Up to this point, MoviePass has been dominant in the U.S., offering subscribers up to 1 movie ticket per day for the unbelievable price of $9.95/month. Sinemia’s subscription options do not match this pricing, but do offer some other perks that some customers may prefer.

No one can deny that subscription services are becoming more popular over time. Many people view subscriptions as more convenient than paying each time they want something. In many cases subscriptions can make services much cheaper for customers that generally consume a lot of that given product while also helping them budget accordingly.

MoviePass, Sinemia’s largest competitor, has been covered in the news recently due to controversially monetizing customer location data, removing their unlimited subscription service, placing limits on existing subscribers, and most recently backtracking their decision to cancel their unlimited service. With all of this controversy, it seems that Sinemia may have picked the best possible time to launch their new subscription service.

“As a tech startup with passion for movies, our goal is to create a more elevated movie-going experience via offline and online integration. We offer prime memberships, including movie tickets and discounts to restaurants and cafes, that increase movie-going frequency in a sustainable way. Already, we are successfully operating in five countries around the world and plan to open in four additional markets in the near future,” says Rifat Oguz, founder of Sinemia. “Leveraging unique technologies, we have put forth the most innovative, high-value, and least restrictive movie ticket subscription service to date. While we do not offer ‘more’ tickets per month, Sinemia does offer higher quality tickets and a superior customer experience. We are happy to serve a proven movie ticket subscription model that creates a bigger value for customers and financially sustainable business for all partners in the movie-going ecosystem.”

Sinemia hopes to catch the attention of customers by offering options that MoviePass does not. Such as features like watching 3D, IMAX, 4DX formats, plans for couples, and advanced online ticketing (allows subscribers to reserve seats up to 30 days in ahead).

Sinemia does not offer an unlimited tier like MoviePass, but instead offer tiers based on the number of tickets and the movie format. Pricing ranges from $4.99 for one 2D movie ticket per month all the way up to $14.99 which nets the subscriber three movie tickets for any type of movie format.
