V-MODA’s upgraded Codex Edition Crossfade 2 Wireless Headphones, available now

There are far too many options out there when it comes to headphones. Some prefer the stylish look of Beats where as others go for hardcore sound quality on say, something like a set from Beyerdynamics. One company that has always stood out from the pack is V-MODA. Its high-quality cans are made from premium materials and sit somewhere in between the fashionable headsets and a more audiophile-centric design. Today the company is ready to unveil its latest with an upgraded pair of the popular Crossfade 2 Wireless over-ear headphones.

The Crossfade 2 Wireless Headphones are certainly among our favorites in the price range. In fact they just recently saw an official price drop from $330 down to $250, although we have seen them go for less than that here at 9to5Toys. They feature 14+ hours of battery life on a single charge, 50mm dual-diaphragm drivers, a 5 to 40,000 Hz frequency response range, on-board call controls and a premium metal design.

If that sounds as good to you as it does to us then you’ll be happy to know the new Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition feature much of the same specs with additional codec support for higher quality audio in various circumstances.

They will be available in three colorways at launch and support Qualcomm aptX, AAC and SBC. For most people, that really doesn’t mean much, but just know you’re getting a much better wireless audio quality transmission over Bluetooth. Advanced Audio Codec (AAC) is essentially for higher-quality audio from iOS devices and the SBC setting will essentially have you covered on devices or situations where the other two aren’t supported.

Again, this is certainly going to be trivial for your average listener, but anyone looking for pristine audio from whatever source they might be attached to at the moment, will like the sounds of this.

Having said all that, you can also opt for a wired connection with the new Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition, which, according to the Japan Audio Society (JAS), provides an extended frequency range and 24bit/96kHz playback from high-end, compatible sources.

The Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition Headphones are available now in Rose Gold exclusively at Best Buy for $350. The matte black option is out now on V-MODA’s site and Microsoft (it doesn’t appear to be up on Microsoft yet). The rest of the options and retailers will go live in the US “over the next 1-2 months”.
