Sony E3 2018 Showcase: Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, more

Well, usually Sony is the E3 press conference to wait for, and this year it did not disappoint. Game of the show might still be up in the air if you ask me, but we caught a heavy dose of what is up next for PlayStation gamers regardless. Sony was said to be focusing on 4 or 5 main titles this year, but we got much more than that. Open world samurai action, web-slinging traversal and the sequel everyone has been waiting for, all that and more down below.

***Sony hasn’t uploaded all the footage yet, but you’ll find anchored links from the presentation below for some titles. More coming…

The Last of Us Part II |

Sony kicked off the show with a lengthy trailer for one of the most highly-anticipated sequels in recent memory. It begins with an emotional cutscene before it quickly transitions into some gameplay footage. This thing looks about as amazing as you thought it would and Sony gave us a very generous taste tonight.

Protagonist Ellie slides in and out of cover before landing devastating blows from the shadows through what looks to be a night time forest/abandoned parking lot scene. The combat gameplay looks to be even more brutal and possibly more even more fast-paced than the last go around. Feast your eyes below:

Ghost of Tsushima |

One of the most mysterious of the known titles appearing in tonight’s showcase, we now have a much better idea of what we are getting in to with Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch dropped us right into the gameplay and wow…the open-world looks incredible!

But we already knew that. We also get a good look at combat, stealth mechanics, horseback traversal and a couple story beats along the way.

Our main character looks to quite agile as well, not quite Assassin’s Creed-style, but close. Using a grapple hook of sorts and some slick climbing it looks like we will certainly be quite nimble. So we do get some ninja-like traits as expected, but there are also some amazing looking samurai sword battle moments and what look to be some interesting specials of some kind. Check it out for yourself above.

In 1274, the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the Japanese island of Tsushima and slaughters its legendary samurai defenders. Jin Sakai is one of the last survivors of a noble samurai clan. To combat his overwhelming foes, he must pioneer deadly new fighting techniques–the way of The Ghost–and wage an unconventional war for the people of Japan.

Death Stranding |

OK this it, finally more of Hideo Kojima’s new game after Metal Gear. Death Stranding got a brand new trailer to drive the conspiracy theorists wild. We certainly get a good look at the game with a mix of cutscenes and gameplay, by the looks of it. But right now it just looks like astronauts wandering through gorgeous, barren landscapes for the most part. So the mystery continues.

We know Kojima will be attempting to change the way “game overs” work in a major way with Death Stranding, but it’s still hard to say at this point. We do get a taste of what appears to be stealth-like gameplay as our main character avoids some ghostly like figures. Before he fails to do so and the whole thing wraps up.

Nioh II |

Team Ninja unveiled Nioh II with a brand new trailer. One of the more underrated games in recent memory, the orignal title was fantastic and we can’t wait to see more of this one.

Marvel Spider-Man |
