The hilarious Donut County drops later this month on iOS, Mac and PS4 [Video]

Today we are taking a look at a hilarious indie game about being a raccoon that makes giant holes to steal things from people. Donut County is an odd and yet interesting looking physics-based experience that is set for release later month on iOS, Mac/PC and PS4.

Every once in a while a new indie game catches our eye and Donut County is definitely one of those. Ben Esposito has been working on the game since way back in 2012 entirely by himself when it was just a prototype of a hole sucking in anything that got in its way.

Since then, Esposito has taken the game up a notch by adding a wacky story to explain the madness and unique puzzles built-in to the game’s black hole physics.

In a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Esposito said it’s really just a “wacky physics puzzle game”, but the whole thing is tied together by a raccoon named BK and his buddy Mira. Basically BK and Mira start working at a donut shop that turns out to be a front for a trash stealing raccoon company. From there you’ll find yourself creating giant holes under the town to steal all nature of goods and items. The more you eat, the more you grow, but things get tricky with heavier items and puzzle-based situations. Gameplay isn’t entirely mindless here either, you’ll have to use your brain in order to figure how to get everything down.

The whole thing looks and sounds like the an entirely ridiculous idea, but in the best way possible. It is the indie developers that think completely outside the box like this that push the medium forward and create a growing interest in games that don’t require 1,000 people six years to make.

Esposito said “it’s a really funny and unique game about holes, donuts, and idiot raccoons,” and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. It won’t be long now either, it will release for PS4 (PSN), iOS (App Store), Mac and PC (Mac App Store, Steam and GOG) on August 28th. There is no word on a Switch or Xbox version just yet, but it’s pretty amazing just one person was able to get a multi platform launch in the first place. Although it wouldn’t be surprising to see the thieving raccoons make it to Microsoft and Switch consoles down the road.
