Focal’s high-end Elegia headphones aim to provide audiophiles with ‘pure musical bliss’

With wireless headphones and earbuds becoming increasingly popular, it can be easy to forget just how much better audio can sound when you have high-end equipment. While many consumers can’t tell the difference between high-end gear and some average solutions like Apple’s AirPods or RHA’s soon-to-be released TrueConnect earbuds, there are quite a few folks out there that know exactly what they are giving up. With the release of Elegia by Focal, it’s clear that there are companies working to make gear that provides better experiences for those of us that may that deem the tradeoff of some conveniences worthwhile.

Having spent more than 35 years competing in the headphone arena, Focal has really begun to stand out globally over the past few years. Its recent releases include the Elear, Utopia, and Clear, showing that the French brand can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the big players.

With today’s announcement of Elegia, Focal claims its latest release does not make “any concessions on the reproduction of the lowest frequencies”. This is thanks to the speaker drivers being “integrated directly into the closed-back headphones”.

“Elegia is an invitation for audiophiles to make a date with absolute sound whenever and wherever they want, to dive into an intimate sound bubble without worrying about a noisy environment interfering with moments of pure musical bliss.”

Using materials like copper, leather, aluminum and more, Focal shows off the significant effort it through went to produce the best hardware for Elegia. Its “exclusive and low compliance electrodynamic transducers” allow the headset to produce an extended frequency response of 23 kHz.

To ensure that your investment remains protected, Elegia includes a rigid carrying case that has enough room for the headphones and the included 3.5mm cable and 6.35mm headphone jack adapter.

Thanks to memory foam microfiber used for the earpads, Focal Elegia are designed to conform to the shape of the users head while ensuring “supreme comfort”. The pairing of microfiber earpads and the vents used on Elegia provide what Focal calls “perfect soundproofing”, keeping unwanted sounds out while also keeping user sessions isolated.

Focal’s Elegia headphones are available starting this month and are priced at $900 on the company’s website. When attempting to order a pair from the United States on Focal’s website, users are directed find an official retailer to complete their purchase.

General availability will likely improve over time considering that quite a bit of Focal’s other gear have product listings on Amazon and can also be found at retailers like B&H.
