Sling TV lands on Oculus Go, bringing your favorite channels to a massive 180-inch TV experience

If you have not spent any time using virtual reality yet, it is likely due to how cumbersome it can be to use, combined with the limited number of people who own a headset for you to try. Oculus Go is a recently-released VR headset that aims to change all of that.

Thanks to its low price tag and standalone design that does not require a smartphone or computer to run, Oculus Go is made with general consumers in mind. With today’s announcement that Sling TV is now available on Oculus Go, this provides an immersive way to catch up on the latest entertainment.

Competition

More and more people are cutting the traditional cable cord every day. While many have opted to go all-in on streaming solutions like Netflix, there are quite a few reasons why losing live TV is non-negotiable for many consumers.

Unlike Netflix, Hulu offers a solution that provides the best of both worlds: on-demand TV and movie streaming with live TV as an available add-on. This approach from Hulu has likely deterred some folks from choosing Sling TV, it still remains one of the easiest, most platform-agnostic ways to be able to stream live TV.

Experience

Sling TV is an app that is installed as a part of the Oculus TV experience, one that we covered when it was released earlier this year. The draw of Oculus TV is that it lets you set foot into a beautiful room with a bezel-less 180-inch display. From here is where you launch Sling TV and select the channel you would like to watch.

“No big screen, no room, no problem. Sling TV on Oculus Go gives customers an incredibly large screen, high-resolution experience anywhere they get a WiFi connection, without the need to connect to a phone or PC,” said Jimshade Chaudhari, vice president, product management, Sling TV. “Oculus Go is a real game-changer in giving people a personal home theater experience wherever they are, with its crystal-clear optics and portable design.”

Packages

Sling TV on Oculus Go offers the same access that you would expect on other devices. This means that no matter which subscription you have, whether it be Sling Blue or Orange, you will be able to stream all of the channels offered by it.

Pricing & availability

Sling TV on Oculus Go is available today and free to download. If you don’t have a Oculus Go yet, they are currently priced at $179.99 and $229.99 for the 32GB and 64GB models, respectively.

While Oculus Go is the first VR headset to get Sling TV, other standalone headsets like Lenovo’s Mirage may get it at some point as well.
