SYLVANIA Smart+ Bluetooth products now work w/ HomeKit, Alexa, & Assistant from $20.50

SYLVANIA Smart+ Bluetooth smart home products are a great option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly smart bulb or LED strip for your home. But, until now, they only worked with Apple’s HomeKit over Bluetooth. That all changes today as SYLVANIA released a Google Play app that allows for Alexa and Assistant compatibility, giving people wider access to budget-friendly smart home accessories.

SYLVANIA Smart+ Bluetooth Smart Home gets Alexa and Assistant

The SYLVANIA Smart+ Bluetooth series offers several options for smart home lighting. There’s an A19 Full Color or Soft White bulb, BR30 Full Color or Soft White bulb, and even a Full Color Flex Strip to put behind your TV or desk. Prices here start at a very reasonable $20.50 shipped from Amazon for the A19 Soft White, and max out at $39.99 for the Flex Strip.

Until now, however, these smart home accessories worked exclusively with HomeKit over Bluetooth. But, with an update that launched today, you’ll be able to use the app to set it up for use with Alexa or Assistant, giving more people access to budget-friendly smart home products.

This line of smart home products doesn’t require a hub, which also helps with the savings. Each bulb in the system will link to each other, allowing you to have greater coverage in your home without expensive Wi-Fi hubs.

This Bluetooth mesh technology is stable, reliable, and scales with your home. It doesn’t matter how big your home is, as long as you have bulbs within range of each other, they will just keep extending how far your reach goes.

You can download the SYLVANIA Smart Home app on Google Play today and get simple setup and access to both Assistant and Alexa control, depending on what ecosystem you’ve bought into.

This is one of the most budget-friendly ways to get HomeKit, Alexa, and Assistant compatibility in smart lighting. Other alternatives, like Philips Hue, require expensive hubs and even more expensive light strips. Not everyone wants to spend that kind of cash on building out a smart home, so SYLVANIA is a great alternative for those people.

WILMINGTON, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–LEDVANCE, the maker of SYLVANIA general lighting in the United States, is expanding its portfolio of easy-to-use SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth lighting to benefit Android users in the US. Launched early 2017, the HomeKit™-enabled SYLVANIA SMART+ Full Color A19 LED light bulb was the first to be easily controlled via Siri® and the Apple® Home app without a separate hub. Now, with an Android device in the home in range, new SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth LED lighting products work with the Google Assistant™ or Amazon Alexa via the new SYLVANIA Smart Home app on Google Play, providing hands-free lighting control for Android users without requiring any additional hardware.

Android users can also benefit from Bluetooth mesh technology. If they have multiple SYLVANIA Bluetooth mesh devices, they can control the SYLVANIA lights in another room, on the next floor, or even outside their home thanks to the ability of mesh devices to relay commands and information between each other, effectively extending the control range of their phones. With Bluetooth mesh devices, users can also take advantage of increased reliability and scalability with a limited delay in response when controlling individual or groups of lights together.

“No matter which system or phone you have, with SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth LED lighting products you can count on simple setup, control and convenience,” said Alberto Pierotti, Head of SMART and Head of R&D for US and Canada, LEDVANCE. “These are the first products to work with all three voice assistants from Apple, Amazon and Google using Bluetooth or Bluetooth mesh.”

The new SYLVANIA Smart Home app available on Google Play gives Android users easy control of popular features such as turning lights on and off, grouping their lights, adjusting the brightness level, and changing colors with Full Color products.

While other smart lighting products require a gateway or rely on a Wi-Fi router as a hub controlled by Siri, Alexa or the Google Assistant, SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth LED lighting products eliminate the need for additional hardware and provide simplified control – nothing more, nothing less. These are perfect for high school or college students who want to personalize their bedrooms, dorms rooms or apartments, or anyone who wants to enjoy the convenience of smart lighting.

“People have always told us that they like the benefits of smart lighting but want it to be easier to setup and use. We accomplished this when we launched our HomeKit-enabled SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth lighting products,” said Pierotti. “Now, we are offering that same ease-of-use and convenience to Android users with smart lighting that requires nothing more than a mobile device and a free app. These are the world’s first and only Bluetooth mesh connected lighting products that provide the long range, low power and high reliability that smart home customers want.”

Apple users can control their lights from the Apple Home app on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch® or Apple Watch®, by using Siri on any device including HomePod™, or directly from Control Center. Outside the home, a HomeKit home hub (HomePod, 4th generation Apple TV® or an iPad with the latest version of iOS) can remotely control these units and set up automations.

Six SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth products are available for integration with the SYLVANIA Smart Home App. They are the SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth A19 Soft White, A19 Full Color, A19 Filament, BR30 Soft White, BR30 Full Color, and Indoor Full Color Flex Strip. Products are available on Amazon, select Home Depot locations and homedepot.com, Menards and menards.com, and other retailers. The SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth In Wall Switch and Plug, in addition to an iOS version of the app, will come at a later date.
