American Express is looking to make online shopping faster and more secure with a new service it calls Amex Express Checkout.
Card members can now use their existing americanexpress.com login credentials at participating online retailers to automatically populate card and billing information. American Express says all of this account information is transferred via a token, which offers improved security over traditional online transactions. Again, this is all done using the card member’s Amex login info so there’s no need to create a separate account. Also, card members don’t need to worry about updating their information if they get issued a new card number or move since all of the information is pulled directly from Amex.
Amex Express Checkout is available today at BarkBox, Burberry, Ledbury, Newegg, Sabon, Ticketmaster, Warby Parker and The Wall Street Journal. Support is also coming to Stripe websites and the following retailers soon: Avis Car Rental, Banana Republic, Cole Haan, Hulu, Gap, Intermix, Old Navy, POPSUGAR Must Have, Rocketmiles, 1-800-FLOWERS.COM and others.
There’s a special launch offer of a one-time $10 statement credit when you use Amex Express checkout at one of these retailers by September 7th: expand full story
