CES Stories January 6, 2015

Monday at CES-2015, Samsung unveiled the ultra small portable SSD T1. It has the powerful performance of an internal solid-state drive, a pretty cool looking shell, and it’s only about the size of a business card. Weighing only an ounce, you can fit it in your wallet or shirt pocket and you’re good to go. Did I mention it’s fast? It only takes eight seconds to transfer a 3GB movie file, according to Samsung.

You can get 250GB, 500GB, or even 1TB of storage for $180, $300, or $600 respectively. Each drive comes with AES 256-bit encryption, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 support.

Introduced this morning on the floor of CES, The ChillHub is a refrigerator with two 4-port USB hubs, built-in Wi-Fi, and an open-source iOS-compatible app. The idea is that you can access sensor data and control the fridge components remotely. This “first-of-its-kind platform” enables the development of new hardware products that benefit from operating inside a cooled space.

FirstBuild, the company that developed the “smart fridge,” describe ChillHub as an open development platform designed for “makers, hackers, tinkerers and developers”.

MacMall has the Griffin PowerDock 5 charging station for just $80 shipped right now. This is $20 under the regular price, $8 cheaper than Amazon and matches our current lowest mention ever on this charging station. You will be required to create a free MacMall ID to redeem this discount, it takes about 2 minutes and does not require you to put in your credit card info until the point of purchase.

Officially unveiled back at CES in January and then released this past summer, we are already seeing nice discounts on the new iPad, iPhone, and iPod charger. It features storage and charging for up to 5 devices simultaneously (with enough room for the devices to fit in their cases), as well as offering a nice space-saving option to keep your devices organized and charged up. As you can see in the image above, this thing has a very small footprint considering the amount of devices it can handle at once. It is designed for Apple devices specifically, but Griffin says it will also charge “most Kindle and Android devices.”
