In 2012, we saw the promise of a Wi-Fi connected home monitoring system in Doorbot. The promise fell short and left a few unhappy first generation adopters. However, the company rebranded and today the product is Ring.
The Ring Video Doorbell was built from the ground up to provide consumers with unprecedented convenience, monitoring, and security for their homes.
The Ring is now available for pre-order for $199 until November when it will go to the full price of $249. It comes in four different finishes, and it includes a free cloud-based video recording service (until January of 2015 when subscription options will be available).
The device has apps to work with both iOS and Android and it can record 720p video at 30fps. It has infrared LEDs for recording at night and features a 5,200mAh rechargeable battery that does require charging.
