Verizon FIOS

Today Verizon announced that their FiOS customers will receive upload speeds that match their current download speeds. This upgrade is for everyone, both existing customers and new140720_SpeedsUpDown285 subscribers.

Now you might be familiar with Verizon’s throttling of Netflix or its mediocrity when streaming Youtube (the number 1 and 2 reasons for getting high speed internet) and those things haven’t changed nor has their anti net-neutrality stance.

But frankly, you don’t have much of a choice out there. Comcast is worse and as the FCC deregulates, it doesn’t look good unless Google Fiber is coming to your town.

Before the upgrade, the tiers were 50/25, 75/35, 150/65, 300/65, and 500/100, but now in all cases, the second # (the upload speed) will increase to match the download speed.

Our favorite packages, the $50 for 50/50 Mb FiOS + HBO, local channels and some noteworthy HD channels including ESPN also got the upgrade making the deal even sweeter.
