Toshiba has announced a new addition to its line of portable storage with the Encrypted USB Flash Drive, a device that packs a little espionage into your data transfer. On the surface, it’s your typical 4 to 32 GB flash drive but with a PIN pad you need to use to gain access. The drive also automatically secures your information using military grade AES 256-bit encryption. Toshiba built it to allow users a means to “make sensitive data portable”.

The numerical PIN pad has a rechargeable battery so you have to enter a secure code before plugging into a USB port. Once you enter the code, the flash drive lets you view your files. When you take the drive out from a USB port, it will automatically re-lock and encrypt your files. The flash drive is intended for government agencies or really anyone who needs portable and secure information.

TOSHIBA ANNOUNCES ENCRYPTED USB FLASH DRIVEThe most interesting part about this super secure flash drive is its “self-destruct” function. If the flash drive is lost or stolen, it has a mechanism that will render all stored information irrecoverable after 10 consecutive unsuccessful attempts to enter the secure PIN.

Starting today, the Toshiba Encrypted USB Flash Drive is available to the public at Amazon in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities or from Toshiba for $95.00 for the 4GB model, $112.00 for the 8GB model, $140.00 for the 16GB and $200.00 for the 32GB model. A three year limited warranty is included with all models.
