Here’s a look at Pioneer’s new all-gold limited edition DJ controller

Pioneer is well known for its DJ gear, especially its flagship DDJ-SZ Serato controllers, and now its limited edition model is scheduled to go up for sale in the coming days. Sporting the all gold exterior seen in the image above, the DDJ-SZ-N boasts all of the same features as its standard edition counterpart but with very limited availability…

Outside of the shiny new exterior, the DDJ-SZ-N remains unchanged from the standard edition with full-sized jog wheels, multi-function performance/cue pads, dual mic inputs, dual USB soundcards, sampling/effects across all four channels and Pioneer’s exclusive Magvel crossfader.

Much like the gold treatment its DDJ-SX model received previously, there will only be 1,000 golden SZ-N models available worldwide, each with a custom laser engraved serial number.

But with a suggested retail price north of $2,000 and very limited availability, these are certainly only going to be of interest to serious collectors. Some of the much more affordable options from Pioneer like the DDJ-SB line, along with highly rated options from Numark and others (like this $100 iPad/Mac option for just $67 at Amazon) will likely get the job done for most.

The new golden DDJ-SZ-N has a suggested retail price of around $2,500 and is set to go up for sale from various retailers in March.

More details from Pioneer:

OVERVIEW

Pioneer’s DDJ-SB 2-channel DJ controller is designed for use with Serato® DJ Intro software. The DDJ-SB features similar operability as Pioneer’s extremely popular DDJ-SX and recently announced DDJ-SR.  More compact and portable than the other models, the DDJ-SB is designed for the entry-level DJ who wants the same look and fell as the upper models but with more basic operability and at a more affordable price.  The DDJ-SB uses the Serato DJ Intro software and incorporates four performance pads, large jog wheels, and a new Filter Fade function that assists users in smoothly blending together tracks of different styles.

MIXING WITH SERATO

  • Serato DJ Intro – The DDJ-SB is packaged with Serato DJ Intro software and its layout mirrors Serato DJ Intro’s interface, so getting hands on with the controller’s tactile buttons and dials soon become second nature.  Serato DJ Intro provides an out-of-the-box experience with Hot Cue, Auto Loop, Sampler and other cool effects. For expanded functionalities and effects, the controller can be used with Serato DJ (optional, paid software) offering users the ability to arrange tracks using Slip Mode, access various effect functions available from iZotope®, and record tracks with DJ mixes using the record function.
  • Performance Pads – Four rubber “performance pads” enable DJs to trigger Hot Cue, Auto Loop, Manual Loop and Sampler, while a further four pads give immediate access to Play, Cue, Sync and Shift functions.
  • Filter Fade – The new Filter Fade function takes mixing with the crossfader beyond simply fading the volume on one channel up and the other down.  By hitting the Filter Fade button, DJs can add two high pass filters to the crossfader.  This allows both volume and base filter to be manipulated using just one hand.  Seamless mixing becomes effortless, and DJs can use their spare hand to unleash their creativity, triggering samples, loops and cues.
  • Professional Design – For a stylish and sophisticated look and feel, the DDJ-SB sports the same premium look as its big brothers, including large (112mm) aluminum jog plates.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

  • USB Power – The controller can be powered through the USB connection to a laptop.
  • Built-in Sound Card (audio interface) – Simple connection to a laptop with a single USB cable.
  • Integrated Handles – The controller features grip handles on each side for added convenience.

Pioneer DDJ-T1 & S1 DJ Controllers at $100 off: $600 shipped

Along with Numark, Pioneer has been a staple in the DJ community for many years and its DDJ line of DJ controllers is no exception. The weapon of choice for many DJs, the Pioneer DDJ S1 and T1 are some of the most powerful DJ rigs available. Amazon is currently offering both decks at $100 off, making this a great time to get your hands on a world class DJ rig at less than half the price at launch date.

Both models came in at around $1200 when they were released and slowly crept down to the $700 price point. Now you can grab both the T1 and S1 for $600, bringing you a savings of $600 off the regular listing, $100 off what Pioneer is charging and the current lowest price we can find.

The main difference between the T1 and the S1 is the Serato scratch software support, to put it simply, if you’re into scratching and that style of music the S1 is the model for you. Another glaring difference is that the S1 is a two channel mixer whereas the T1 is a 4 channel mixer, making it more capable of elaborate live multi-track mixing. Both models support Native Instrument’s industry standard DJ software Traktor.
