Earlier this month CBS announced its plans to make Showtime available as a standalone streaming service. When it launches in mid-July it’ll cost you $10.99 a month if you sign up directly through your Apple TV or other device.

But we’ve just found out that Hulu subscribers will have the opportunity to add Showtime streaming for $8.99 a month (a 20% discount). Of course, that’s in addition to their standard monthly Hulu subscription fee of $7.99. A 30-day free trial will also be available. Hulu really wants to sell its base service. So much so, that it’s eating the $2 discount to bring its subscribers this exclusive benefit.

Showtime streaming will be available for Hulu subscribers just before the July 12th premiers of Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex. expand full story

Eight years ago, the Showtime Rotisserie Oven went from being the punchline of a joke to one of the best tools in my kitchen. Aggressively pitched in late-night Ron Popeil infomercials with the tagline “set it and forget it” — a catchy phrase that quickly made its way into the popular lexicon — the Rotisserie’s value as a cooking tool didn’t get as much attention as its marketing.

I’d like to fix that in this week’s edition of Kitchen Tech. As the pitch suggests, the Showtime Rotisserie is a dead-simple cooking tool, and as we learned after receiving one as a gift from my mother-in-law, it also happens to make outstanding, restaurant-quality roasts and poultry. Much larger versions are used to prepare large quantities of poultry and meats in restaurant kitchens; the countertop-sized Showtime is designed for four- to six-person meals. It’s even easier to use than the sous vide machines we’ve covered, and over nearly a decade of use, we’ve never had to replace a single part. Read on for how it works, and why it continues to be a favorite tool in our kitchen.

Verizon continues to sweeten the deal to get you to jump on a 2-year contract by now offering FiOS 50/50 Internet + Local Channels + HBO and Showtime + Netflix price locked for 2 years at only $59.99/mo. That’s $20/month less than our previous mention, plus the addition of Netflix and both premium channels (instead of your choice of only one previously).

This offer is $10 less than getting FiOS 50/50 Internet by itself and it’s also the first time we’ve ever seen them offer a Netflix subscription. The waived activation fee is also a savings of $50 from previous offers.

AT&T is offering an online exclusive: U-verse TV, HBO, and a year of Amazon Prime for only $39/month. This is the lowest bundle we’ve with these three services considering U-verse TV has Over 300,000 TV shows, movies, music videos, and sports. Also, you get TV live or On Demand, room to room or on the go, and same-day-as-DVD and pre-DVD movie releases some up to a month before Netflix.

That compared to Verizon (below) which also offers HBO (or Showtime) bundled with a faster 50/50MB FiOS Internet local news and Sports (and no Amazon Prime) for  $50/month with $35 installation waved.

Both are great deals and less than internet alone. expand full story
